Pre-poetry micro-challenge: Day 4 -- steampunk

Nature meets technology, old-fashioned, sepia and faded primaries -- red, blue, yellow, brown, brown, brown. Gears tell me of times past, teeth gnashing, passing, interlocking, electricity is nowhere here. Stained and spotted, tea and time, sky blue dotted with ships, clouds mingling with steam drift. Constant circle, time over time after time under time around time and again. A shift in consciousness, can it run on pressure alone, on mechanical analog, ethereal in its concrete way.Getting more structured with each post. I like it and I don't. Part of me wants to stay elemental with just word association, but part of me wants sentences, poetry over prose, etc. Interesting to see these predilections coming out of their own accord. It's amazing what we can learn when we stick to the plan.

I've always had a weakness for steampunk imagery. I can't exactly pinpoint what I love about it. My image search today was a long one. It was tough to find an image that resonated with me with the "steampunk" search term: often when I examined things too closely, I was put off by the lack of practicality (i.e. the random amalgamation of gears that looked nice, but did nothing, or clockwork butterflies, and the like). But if I just glance and marvel, what attracts me is partly the old-timeyness, partly the predominance of gears, which I find beautiful and intriguing to look at, and partly the idea behind it of an alternate reality, where everything we've accomplished with one set of technologies (electricity and circuit boards) can be or has been accomplished with steam and clockwork. I also love collage and layered art. So, yeah, this is pretty.
