Welcome to Grown-up-hood

Nonsense and I have made purchases together before that were based on taking each other's opinions into account and figuring out what was best for our household, but in the past, these items have either been relatively unimportant (financially, aesthetically, or practically) or they've been pretty much for the exclusive use of one or the other of us (as in the case of my entire home office system).

This past Saturday, we reached what felt somehow like a new milestone for us -- we bought an armchair together.

Here it is! Innit nice?

Now, granted, this armchair was purchased in that perpetual supplier of student-lifestyle we know as Ikea (and I think most of you know how I feel about that). However, many of the other criteria for a sophisticated and considered adult purchase were there. Some of those criteria, as I see them:
  • It's a piece of furniture.
  • It came in a single package, delivered by a delivery service straight into our living room.
  • It was purchased new, yet came pre-assembled.
  • It cost more than $75 (but, happily, less than $400).
  • It's comfy enough for a real person, yet chic enough for a home decor show.
  • Before even considering venturing into a showroom, we discussed each of our reasons why we might and might not want to get it, what we wanted and why, and arrived at a mutually satisfactory decision to find and purchase a comfortable armchair
  • Neither of us knew which chair we were going to buy before we went to Ikea. We each tried several and both liked this one, and decided that the price was great, together.
  • It's in a colour and fabric that should endure and transfer well should we move house.
So there you have it, we are officially an adult couple now. Aaaand I have a spot where I can sit and read in blissful comfort! WIN!
